Sourdough Dinner Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 3 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or honey
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg

Step-by-Step Recipe

Step 1: Mix the Dough

In a large bowl, add warm milk, sourdough starter, sugar, egg, and butter. Mix well until smooth.

Step 2: Add Dry Ingredients

Slowly add flour and salt. Mix everything together until a soft dough forms.

Step 3: Knead the Dough

Place the dough on a lightly floured surface. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and stretchy.

Step 4: First Rise

Put the dough into a greased bowl and cover with a towel. Let it rise for 4–6 hours or until doubled in size.

Step 5: Shape the Rolls

Punch down the dough gently. Divide it into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece into a smooth ball.

Step 6: Second Rise

Place the dough balls into a greased baking dish. Cover and let them rise again for 2–3 hours until puffy.

Step 7: Bake

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the tops with melted butter.

Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown on top.

Step 8: Serve

Remove from the oven and brush with extra butter for a soft shiny finish. Serve warm with butter, soup, or dinner meals.
